Snowy Rim at Bryce Canyon

If you look closely you can see the angles of the snow shadows in the foreground are echoed in the crossing contrails in the upper right portion of the sky. Taken near the rim, just east of Ruby's Lodge during the Winter Festival. This photo won 2nd place in the nature category of the photo contest there. More photos from the Winter Festival are here.

Airborne Swimmers

Here's what a swimmers start from raised blocks really looks like... There are 125 milliseconds between these images. So estimating that they are moving about 2-3 feet in that time, that equates to 16-24 feet per second or about 10-16 mph. All these swimmers started within a few msec of each other too.

Kate MacLeod

It's been my privilege to know Kate MacLeod for a long time. She's an amazingly talented instrumentalist and has a sparkling, effortless voice that I always love hearing. Here she's performing at a small Quaker benefit concert in March 2007. Those of us in the Salt Lake valley are fortunate to be able to hear her several times a year, usually in intimate settings with good acoustics.
